Folded letters
Folded letters
For this piece, I Higgins Eternal black ink, Prismacolor alcohol-based markers, and illustration markers. The inspiration for this piece was to find a way to look at the alphabet in a new way. I didn't want to do the style, left to right, that you learn in elementary school when learning how to write the alphabet. I saw that when you write the alphabet from top to bottom, it creates more of a challenge to find the perfect placement of each letter and design to pull the piece together. For this piece, I decided to make it into an accordion-style book. It's much easier to travel with, but it still has the length I wanted.

Artist Statement
Art is my way to escape reality. Others may use reading, writing, and or some form of physical activity as a way to escape, but for me, it's art. When I draw, paint, or write, my emotions take control of me, and my mind wanders to a different place of color and sound. Through my art, I try to connect with people in a new way. Sometimes the thoughts in your head are more complicated to write down for people to understand, so the only other way to get your emotions across to others is just by letting your emotions take over and put them on a canvas in your way.
